Online Safety - #4 of the 23 things

I once sent a joke via e-mail which, unbeknownst to me, carried with it a virus. : (

Ever since then, I have been a bit leery about opening e-mail attachments and visiting websites and giving my information online. I try to stick with credible websites and I avoid passing along e-mails. If the information seems important or worthy to pass along, I'll cut and paste the information.

My thoughts on the 23 things....

Ok, so at first I was a bit skeptical and reluctant about completing the 23 things. While I enjoy learning about new things, I am very apprehensive about sharing my e-mail address with websites. I am especially sensitive about using my work e-mail address because I am always concerned about Trojan Horses and other spyware or phishing mechanisms. Nevertheless, I pushed forward and completed the 23 things and I must say, aside from my worries, I am glad that I finished the task. I liked the ELF program and I loved creating my own Library Trading Card! I don't look forward to the millions of emails I am sure to get from sigining up to all of these sites but I guess that's why we have e-mail blocker.

I think the best way for HCPL to incorporate Library 2.0 would be to create a public version of the "23 Things". I can see that as a great driver to educate the masses of what's available online.

ELF

I noticed that a few people were having problems logging onto ELF. I was able to log on just now without any problems, however, I have yet to see any tracking of my materials. It may take a day or two.

Library 2.0 - My perspective

Library 2.0 sounds cutting edge, fresh and exciting and as the keepers of information, it is only fitting that libraries use this term to describe newfound resources which are to be shared with the public.

I'm sure 10 or 5 years from now, maybe even three weeks from now, someone will be referring to Library 2.0 as "L-20"! You know, to follow in true texting lingo jargon!

The 23 Things

Ok, I have to admit, at first, I thought this was a grueling task of an e-scavenger hunt to desperately rack up those much needed training hours. Well, it still is a task of completing an e-scavenger hunt, but aside from having to acutally visit Twitter, this hasn't been so grueling!
